Alcoholic beverage is commonly known as alcohol. It is liquor that contains alcohol as active ingredient. Alcohol drink is often taken socially, recreationally and at mealtimes. Most people look at it as a casual way to relax and have a good time. Low alcohol content drinks are produced by fermentation of sugar or starch containing products and high-alcohol ones are produced by distillation of these. Sometimes, the alcohol content is increased by adding distilled products, particularly in the case of wines. The consumption of alcoholic beverages can have beneficial or harmful effects depending on the amount consumed, age and other characteristics of the person consuming the alcohol, and specifics of the situation. Alcoholic beverages are harmful when consumed in excess. The hazards of heavy alcohol consumption are well known and include loss of brain cells, liver failure, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure, and certain types of cancer, epilepsy, nerve damage, and heart failure. Beer, wine, rum, vodka, brandy etc are some of the examples of alcoholic beverages.
