Carbonated water is plain water into which high amount of carbon dioxide gas has been dissolved. It is one of the major and defining components of most soft drinks. Today, many soft drinks are carbonated including colas and some juice drinks and waters. To carbonate a soft drink, water is treated to standardize its appearance, taste, and aroma, and to remove certain minerals and impurities. This is important to ensure the finished soft drink is consistent in appearance and taste. The process of dissolving carbon dioxide gas is called carbonation. The presence of carbon dioxide in the water makes the water bubbly and gives it a tangy taste. Carbonated water can also be referred as sparkling water, soda water, fizzy water, club soda etc. Carbonated water is believed by some to be good for removing stains, for example coffee stains from mugs, or stains from silver.
