Donuts are a sweet, deep fried piece of dough. Ring donut and filled donut are the two most common types of donuts. Filled donuts are round flattened and are injected with jam, jelly, cream, custard, or another sweet filling. Ring donuts are prepared in shape of a ring with a hole in between. The dough from the donuts hole is removed and this smaller piece of dough can be cooked or re-added to the batch to make more donuts. After being fried, ring donuts are often topped with a glaze icing or a powder such as cinnamon or sugar. Ringless Donuts such as fritters and jelly donuts may be glazed and injected with jam or custard. Different donuts are made of different shapes, different lengths, and each variety is very distinct. Donuts can be eaten as snack as well as desserts.
